in the power therapies
Linked to this page is a list of power
therapy-trained clinicians who are subscribers to the NC Power
Therapies discussion listserv.
EMDR Training
Subscribers of this listserv with EMDR training have taken at
least "Part 1" of the basic training in EMDR from an EMDRIA approved
trainer. Clinicians listed as EMDR FTB are those who have completed the Full
Basic Training as defined by the EMDR International Association. This list
can help
you locate a clinician in your area who has received training to use
EMDR
as
part
of psychotherapy.
Many of the clinicians on this list are members
of the EMDR International Association.
All EMDRIA members have completed Full Basic Training.
Some EMDRIA members have met the additional criteria to be either
EMDRIA Certified
in EMDR, an Approved Consultant in EMDR, or
an EMDRIA Approved Instructor.
The selection of a clinician is a personal and individual matter. Assurances
cannot be made that the qualifications of any individual practitioner, or
the services of any individual practitioner, would be suitable for the
needs of
a particular individual.
Energy Psychotherapy Training
Subscribers listed as having training in energy therapies have attend formal
training in one or more the the energy psychotherapy methods. There is little
quality control in many energy psychotherapies. Caution should be taken to
find out how much training and experience the clinician has in the area of
energy psychotherapy. Some clinicians are members of the Association
for Comprehensive Energy Psychology, a national organization supporting
energy psychotherapies.
Once you have obtained names of clinicians in
your area, you are advised to call and interview several over the
phone to determine which one is best suited to you and your concerns.

Training and levels of expertise in EMDR.
"Part 1" Training:
Equivalent to one weekend (Friday evening and all day Saturday
and Sunday) of approved training in EMDR.
Full Basic Training: Fully trained
in the basic course of EMDR, equivalent to two weekends of approved
training in EMDR.
Starting in 2008, Basic Training in EMDR requires
an additional ten hours of group consultation before an EMDR Trainer
will give a Certification of Completion of the Basic Course.
Requirements to be EMDRIA Certified:
Clinicians who are EMDRIA Certified in EMDR have been licensed or certified
in their profession for independent practice and has had a minimum of two
years experience in their field.
They have completed an EMDRIA approved training program in EMDR.
They have conducted a minimum of fifty clinical sessions in which EMDR was
utilized.
They have received twenty hours of consultation in EMDR by an Approved Consultant.
To maintain certification, they must complete twelve hours of continuing education
in EMDR every two years.
Requirements to be an
EMDRIA Consultant-in-Training:
An EMDRIA Consultant-in-Training must meet all criteria to be Certified in
EMDR.
They have expressed an intent to become an EMDRIA Approved Consultant.
In most cases, they will be training EMDR-trained clinicians and be in consultation
with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant.
Requirements to be an EMDRIA Approved
Consultant:
EMDRIA Approved Consultants must meet all criteria to be Certified in EMDR.
They must have three years of experience with EMDR after completing an EMDRIA
Approved Training Program,
They have conducted at least three hundred clinical sessions in which EMDR
was utilized.
They have received twenty hours of consultation-of-consultation from an EMDRIA
Approved Consultant.
To maintain consultant status, they must complete twelve hours of continuing
education in EMDR every two years.
Requirements to be
an EMDRIA Approved Instructor:
EMDRIA Approved Instructors must be graduates of an EMDRIA Approved Training
Program in EMDR.
They must have met the criteria and been approved as an EMDRIA Approved Consultant.
The EMDRIA Committee for Standards and Training has the authority and responsibility
to recommend which instructors and curricula meet EMDRIA's standards of excellence.
