Noth Carolina EMDRIA Regional Meeting - Shapiro DVD pt.1

Know the How & Why to Choose Your What:
Some Essentials of EMDR Model and Methodology
(2006 Pre-Conference DVD Recording with Francine Shapiro, Ph.D.)

In its twenty year history, EMDR has evolved from a simple technique into an integrative psychotherapy approach with a theoretical model that emphasizes the brain’s information processing system and memories of disturbing experiences as the basis of pathology. Process studies and qualitative analyses have identified distinct treatment effects (including a rapid reduction of subjective distress) that differentiate EMDR from other therapies. The DVD of this workshop will explore some essential conceptual and procedural elements necessary to practice EMDR. A thorough understanding of these elements allows for both flexibility and comprehensive attention to the full clinical picture.

Periodically, the North Carolina Triangle EMDR Study Group is offered at no charge to clinicians who have completed an EMDR International Association-approved training program in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Call if you have an interest in attending.

The group purpose is to increase clinical skills through reinforcing the EMDR basic protocol, studying current literature, sharing case vignettes and learning from the experience of others.

Note: Study group attendance does not count towards EMDRIA-approved certification.

Dr. Peterson offers individual and group consultation for EMDR Certification.
Contact EMDRIA for certification requirements.
For group consultation towards EMDR certification, see EMDR Consultation/Certification Program under Workshop & Training Program Descriptions.

Directions: From Chapel Hill, travel 3½ miles south of Hwy 15-501 down Mount Carmel Church Road, near Governors Club. Turn right onto Edwards Ridge and go to the end of the road.

The Energy Healing Resources website brings useful information on a variety of mental health topics to clinicians and the general public. It is mailtained by Gary Peterson, M.D.

This website has as a major area of focus, the "power therapies." These are a group of psychotherapy processes that incorporate a dual attention task that appears to speed processing. The power therapies that are addressed in this website are: EMDR, and energy psychotherapies. In addition, there is a section on the clinical area of dissociative disorders.

The website includes a listing of therapists trained in specific methods.
